Conveying stories
Since I started dancing at Danshuis when I was thirteen, my love for dance has only continued to grow. The first time we were allowed to improvise in class, something was unleashed within me: I could express my emotions and silence my mind for a moment. Since then, I've felt a compulsion to pursue this passion and explore my body.
Besides high school, dance was an ideal outlet I could look forward to every day. I wanted to continue the freedom I find in dance, so I decided to first complete a year of preparatory training at the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam, followed by a year of contemporary dance studies at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. While I'm grateful for these experiences, it suits me better to keep dance in my life in a different way: not as a professional dancer, but to continue my love for it.
The dance group offers a familiar and comfortable foundation with plenty of room for authenticity, while also challenging me technically. I can describe the processes that lead up to a performance as very collective and reflective. I find it special to be part of the dance group and to share stories with dance enthusiasts (in Haarlem).
