Trying out new movements without inhibition
For me, dance allows me to switch off my thoughts and let my body feel the movement and the music. It gives me the space to both release and recharge my body and mind.
After having spent my entire life twirling around the room to all kinds of music, in every imaginable outfit, I started classical and modern ballet lessons at age seven. At twelve, I attended a year-long dance program at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. After that, I needed a break from dancing.
After a long search for the right place to truly make dance my passion again, I ended up at Danshuis Haarlem at the end of 2019. The incredibly loving, creative, and always positive atmosphere made me feel right at home and fully rediscovered my love for dance. A year and a half later, I had the opportunity to participate in Dansgroep Haarlem's production of Dagboek 44-45. After a long time, I was finally back on stage, and I knew for sure: I would never be able to put dance "on hold" again.
Dancing in general, and especially dancing at DGH, challenges me to let go of my thoughts and let my body follow the music. It encourages me to make mistakes, to try new movements without inhibitions, and not just to dance together but also to create together.
